Dumbbell Murph: A Grueling Hero WOD for Memorial Day
Introducing the Murph Workout
A CrossFit Hero Workout Honoring the Fallen
Every year on Memorial Day, CrossFitters from around the world gather to honor the heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice. One of the most iconic ways to pay tribute is through the Murph workout, a grueling Hero WOD that aims to challenge both the physical and mental limits of participants.
Created by Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy SEAL who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005, the Murph workout consists of 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and a one-mile run, twice through. All told, that's 600 reps and two miles of tough running.
While the Murph workout is certainly a challenge, it's also an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes and to honor their memory. By pushing ourselves to the limit, we can show our respect for those who have served and remind ourselves of the importance of freedom and service.
